Oath of Steel

As one who has committed themselves to the Oath of Steel, you have set yourself up as a stoic protector of the realm. You judiciously guard those placed within your custody and doggedly assault those who run counter to your cause. Typically, these paladins are called “marshals” and are recognized by their signature ceremonial firearms and bolt-throwers.

Tenets of Steel

These words of intent are often emblazoned upon more detailed emblems that can be widely applied to all that follow the Oath of Steel.

  • Protect. My body, I offer in the stalwart defense of others.
  • Preserve. My eternal intent is to uphold the ancient order.
  • Admonish. My words rectify the waylaid and condemn the trespasser.
  • Administer. My weapons deliver swift justice to the malefactor.

You gain oath spells at the paladin levels listed in the Oath of Steel Spells table. See the Sacred Oath class feature for how oath spells work.

Channel Divinity

When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with firearms and you also gain the following two Channel Divinity options.

Guardian Dogmata. During the first round of combat, whenever a friendly creature you can see within 60 feet of you takes damage, you can use a reaction to surround the creature in a silvery aura. Any damage the creature takes while covered in this aura is split evenly between it and you. The effect lasts for 1 minute or until you are knocked unconscious or incapacitated. You can use a bonus action to drop the aura.

Pinpoint Precision. Immediately after you land an attack that deals damage with your Divine Smite, you can use your Channel Divinity to make a ranged attack as a bonus action. Being within 5 feet of a hostile creature doesn’t impose disadvantage on this attack. You can target any creature up to 30 feet away from you. If this attack hits the creature, treat it as if it was a critical hit. If the attack is a natural critical, the weapon causes maximum damage to the creature.

Overreaching Smite

7th- and 18th-level Oath of Steel feature

Beginning at 7th level, when you hit a creature with a ranged attack from a distance of no more than 15 feet, you may empower the hit with a Divine Smite. In addition to the smite damage, the creature takes an additional amount of radiant damage equal to your Charisma modifier and must make a Strength saving throw (equal to your spell save DC) or be knocked back 5 feet.

At 18th level, the range on this feature increases to 30 feet.

Blessed Weaponry

15th-level Oath of Steel feature

You are increasingly adept with your ranged weapons. Crossbows and firearms lose the loading property while you wield them.

In addition, your ranged attacks now land with a righteous fury. When you hit a creature with a ranged attack, you can add an additional 2d8 radiant damage to the blow. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of once). All expended uses are regained after you finish a short or long rest.

Foremost Marshal

20th-level Oath of Steel feature

Your steely presence acts as a safe haven for the threatened and a death knell for the assailant. As a bonus action, you deploy the following traits for 1 minute:

  • All allies inside your aura gain 10 temporary hit points and heal an amount equal to your Charisma modifier at the start of their turns.
  • Once per turn you can add an additional 10 radiant damage to any attack that hits a creature.
  • You gain a +1 to all ranged attacks and any Dexterity based ability checks and saving throws.
  • Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest, unless you expend a 5th-level spell slot to use it again.
