Farmer

Agriculture transformed human society, and thenceforth transformed the world. Nowadays, it’s a thing of massive corporations and mechanized superfarms, with what we think of as the traditional family farm a distant outlier crushed by capitalism, which loathes self-sufficiency. Maybe you are one of those farmers, living as far off the grid as you can, or maybe you simply have a green thumb and have turned your tiny patch of suburban (or even urban) dirt into a cornucopia that is the envy of your neighbors. You’ve likely run into hundreds of people living lives similar enough to your own, tied to the rhythm of the land. They see a kindred spirit in you, and you understand them better than your fellows do. You know what it means when goblin raiders threaten a harvest, or when night-creature sorcery dims the sun’s light, and unlike so many, you’re in a position to do something about it.

You’re familiar with all the ways the parts of an ecosystem work together, and you can identify most plants and mushrooms with a glance. You can always provide enough food for yourself and a few others just by gathering it from the environment, as long as you’re in a natural setting and you don’t stay in the same place for more than a day or two.
