Working Poor

Life has always been a struggle for you, and it was almost certainly a struggle for your parents as well. You live paycheck to paycheck, and even things like unexpected car maintenance or doctor visits are major financial crises for you. If you have any savings at all, they’re meager, just enough to keep your head above water in the aforementioned crises. You make do, and you stretch everything to make ends meet.

You now have the opportunity to write your own ticket, backed with sword, bow, or spell. You may never shed that hard-learned frugality, but in this world without the nine-to-five grind of alienated labor, that just means you’re more ready than most to make it through lean times. For the first time in your life, you’ve got the chance to get ahead, to hold a fortune in the palm of your hand, and nothing’s going to hold you back.

Skill Proficiencies: Choose two from Insight, Perception, Deception, or Persuasion.

Tool Proficiencies: Herbalism kit, and one artisan’s kit of your choice

Equipment: Common clothes, painkillers

Feature: Never Say Die

You’re the champion of dealing with bad circumstances and making do without everything you might otherwise need. When you’re in a tight spot, you may ask the GM to highlight a feature of the area that will provide at least limited aid. This might be food for a day, an unnoticed dungeon alcove where the party might take a sort rest, and so on.
