Circle of the Hoard

The Circle of the Hoard is a secret sect even among druids. Most of these druids are evil and believe that chromatic dragons, as magical creatures with preternatural abilities and predators at the top of the food chain, are destined to become leaders of the world. Circle of the Hoard druids believe in the concept of survival of the fittest and are convinced that by aligning themselves with the fittest — the chromatic dragons — they will rule over nature and all of its inhabitants alongside the mighty wyrms!

Bonus Proficiencies

When you choose this circle at 2nd level, you can speak, read, and write Draconic and gain proficiency with Dexterity (Stealth) skill checks.

Chromatic Dragon Mobility

When you choose this circle at 2nd level, you gain a swim speed of 20 feet or a burrow speed of 10 feet (your choice).

Circle Spells

Your mystical connection to the chromatic dragons manifests itself in certain spells that interact with energy types and improve your vision. At 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9th level you gain access to circle spells. Once you gain access to a circle spell, you always have it prepared, and it doesn’t count against the number of spells you can prepare each day. If you gain access to a spell that doesn’t appear on the druid spell list, the spell is nevertheless a druid spell for you.

Scaled Skin

Starting at 6th level, you can expend one use of your Wild Shape ability to grow scales over your body for 1 hour instead of transforming into a beast. These scales grant a +2 bonus to your armor class, which increases to +4 at 10th level.

Dragon Maw

When you reach 10th level, you can use a bonus action to grow a mouthful of dagger-sharp teeth that last for 1 minute. For the duration, as a bonus action each round, you can make a bite attack. You are proficient with this bite attack and it deals 1d8 + your Strength modifier piercing damage.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Dragon Breath

Starting at 14th level, you gain a breath weapon that deals 27 (5d10) energy damage and one level of exhaustion on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one (with no exhaustion). The energy damage and save is based on the type of dragon that you emulate. The save DC against this feature is 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier + your Charisma modifier (if positive). You select a dragon type the first time you use this feature. From that time forward, you must use the same dragon type each time you use this feature.
