College of Reliquaries

With the discovery of the dragon’s treasure trove, more than ever it is called into question as to whether or not they are a threat or not. Failing contact with the dragons, it is up to these bards, also known as reliquarians, to glimpse into the past of these dragons using their magical talents and discover hidden truths for themselves.

Historian

At 3rd level, you gain proficiency with the History skill. If you already have proficiency with the History skill, you add double your Proficiency Bonus on all ability checks using that skill.

Close Reading

Also at 3rd level, as an action, you can hold an object for 1 minute. If you then pass a DC 10 Intelligence (History) ability check, you learn the name and race of the item’s owner and whether or not they are deceased. If you pass a DC 15 Intelligence (History) ability check, you also learn how long ago the item was last used and for what purpose. Once you have used this ability, you must complete a short or long rest before doing so again.

Speaker for the Dead

At 6th level, when you use your Close Reading ability and pass a DC 10 Intelligence (History) ability check, you may cast speak with dead on the creature that the item belonged to, even if there is no corpse present. If the creature the item belongs to is still alive, the spell instead fails.

Reliquary’s Power

At 14th level, as an action if you are holding a crafted item more than 500 years old or a magic item, you can draw energy from that item and use it to fuel your spellcasting.

You immediately regain use of an expended spell slot of the highest level you can cast. You may only ever use a crafted or magic item once when using this ability. Once you have used this ability, you must complete a long rest before doing so again.
