Oath of Enlightenment

Knowledge is the cornerstone of power; power triumphs over evil. So say the paladins taking the Oath of Enlightenment. They swear to seek the truth by being informed, to retrieve lost manuscripts to add to the repertoire of the great library, to be open to various perspectives, and above all to perfect their mind and body. Just as the celestials have evolved to a higher state of perfection, so too do these visionaries attempt to elevate their mental and physical capabilities. Known as questers or knights of the expanded mind, they defeat evil through communion with ancestors, deities, and other heavenly entities. As traveling teachers, they share their knowledge with the populace to eradicate ignorance, for ignorance creates fear and hatred— neither of which allows a person to rise to their greatest potential. A paladin of enlightenment is known by the mantra “know the enemy, outsmart the enemy, defeat the enemy.”

Tenets of Enlightenment

The Oath of Enlightenment asks its paladins to be seekers of the truth.

Education… is the way. Excellence… is the expectation. Perseverance… is the mandate. Perfection… is the goal. Evolution… is the ultimate achievement.

Oath Spells

You gain oath spells at the paladin levels listed.

Channel Divinity

When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following two Channel Divinity options.

Vessel of the Ancients

You can use your Channel Divinity to invite the spirits of your ancestors to share their knowledge and inform your choices. As an action, you touch your holy symbol to your forehead and listen for whispered words of instruction. For 1 hour, you gain advantage on three skills of your choice.

Trial of Faith

As an action, you present your holy symbol and use your Channel Divinity to push through mental and physical adversity. For 1 minute, whenever you have disadvantage, you roll three dice instead of two and use the second-lowest result instead of the lowest result.

Aura of Awareness

Starting at 7th level, you see illusions for what they are. You and friendly creatures within 10 feet of you automatically save against illusion magic.

At 18th level, the range of this aura increases to 30 feet.

Universal Instructor

Beginning at 15th level, you gain the monk’s tongue of the sun and moon feature.

Perfected Being

At 20th level, you can elevate your mind and body to near perfection. When you use an action, a mantle of excellence settles over you, and you gain the following benefits for 1 minute:

  • You gain truesight.
  • Two mental and two physical ability scores of your choice increase by +4.
  • You fight with your body and your mind. Whenever you make a successful melee weapon attack, you deal an additional 2d6 points of psychic damage.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
