Fighters that take up the way of the shieldbearer are experts at protecting both themselves and their allies.

Shield Protector

When you choose to become a shieldbearer at 3rd level, you add half the armor class bonus you gain from your shield to any allies within 5 feet. Allies that carry a shield do not gain this bonus.

The Shield Takes It

Starting at 7th level, you can have your shield negate the damage from a single weapon attack that targets you. You can use this after someone makes a successful attack but before the damage is rolled. After using this ability, the shield is broken and does not grant you a bonus to your armor class until it is repaired or replaced. You cannot use this ability again until you take a short or long rest.

Throw Shield

Starting at 10th level, you learn to throw your shield with amazing accuracy. When an enemy is attacking an ally within 30 feet, you can use your reaction to impose disadvantage on the attack roll. After using this ability, you cannot use it again until you retrieve your shield or obtain a shield in some other fashion.

Shield Fortress

At 15th level, you learn to hide behind your shield to defend against damage from area effects. As long as you receive a bonus to your armor class from a shield, you add that same bonus to your saving throws to defend against area effect spells such as fireball or other area effects such as a dragon’s breath weapon or traps. If you are between the source of the area effect damage and an ally, the ally receives a bonus to their saving throws equal to half your bonus.

Shield Wall

At 18th level, you can use your shield to force an enemy to stop. When an enemy within 5 feet of you attempts to move, you can use your reaction to make a melee attack roll, knocking them prone on a successful hit.
