Woodcarver Artisan Specialization

Woodcarvers, like carpenters, are an integral part of society.

Bonus Proficiencies

When you adopt this specialization at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with woodcarver’s tools. If you already have this proficiency, you gain proficiency with one other type of artisan’s tools of your choice. You also add the Clockwork Engine, Wyrd Engine, and Wood Material blueprints to your portfolio, and these additions do not count against your maximum number of blueprints owned. If you already have the engine or material in your portfolio, you learn another engine or material blueprint of your choice.

If you have a wyrd engine available, you can combine it with your woodcarver’s tools as an action to create power tools. These power tools allow you to build creations at a much faster speed than would normally be possible by a single individual.

Advanced Woodcrafting

At 3rd level, when using woodcarver’s power tools, you can reduce the time to create a wooden object from months to weeks (determined by dividing the total number of weeks required by 4), weeks to days, days to hours, hours to minutes, and minutes to rounds. You can create any simple weapon or medium armor that requires metal out of wood instead, but it gains the fragile and wooden properties.

Nutcracker

At 3rd level, you can create a wooden servant known as a nutcracker. You add the Nutcracker blueprint to your portfolio for free. You create the nutcracker with a combustion engine. It is friendly to you and your companions, and it obeys your commands. See this creature’s game statistics in the nutcracker monster entry. In combat, the nutcracker shares your initiative count, but takes its turn immediately after yours. It can move and use its reaction on its own, but the only action it takes on its turn is the Dodge action, unless you take a bonus action on your turn to command it to take the action in its stat block or the Dash, Disengage, Help, Hide or Search action. If it has died within the last hour, you can use your woodcarver’s power tools as an action to revive it, provided you are within 5 feet of it. The nutcracker returns to life after 1 minute with all its hit points restored. At the end of a long rest, you can create a new nutcracker if you have your woodcarver’s power tools with you. If you already have a nutcracker from this feature, the first one immediately perishes.

Master Woodcrafting

At 5th level, you can craft any martial weapon or heavy armor that requires hard metal out of wood instead. Any wood you craft does not have vulnerabilities or the fragile property.

Ironwood

At 9th level, you know a special method to treat wood. Using your woodcarver’s power tools, a wyrd engine, and an action, you can turn regular wood into ironwood. Using this feature on your nutcracker increases its Armor Class to 19.

Runecarving

At 15th level, you can place a wyrd engine in a wooden object and carve runes into it. You add the Runecarving innovation to your portfolio for free. You can create a number of runes equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum 1) which collectively count as one active innovation.

Rune Wooden Object Effect
Striking melee or ranged weapon +PB to attack and damage
Defending shield or armor +PB to AC
Detecting mug detects acid, poison, or disease, shattering on contact
Deft shield +PB to Dexterity saving throws
