SPECIAL TRAITS

  • Banelight Aura. All creatures within 60 ft. suffer from the bane spell. Any magical light not created by the banelight turns bright red within this radius.
  • Innate Spellcasting: The banelight’s innate spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 18, +10 to hit with spell attacks). It can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components:
  • Magic Resistance. The banelight has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
  • Regeneration. A banelight regenerates 10 hit points at the start of its turn. This ability does not function if the banelight is in darkness.

ACTIONS

  • Multiattack. The banelight makes two light vortex attacks.
  • Light Vortex. Ranged Spell Attack: +12 to hit, range 60, 1 target. Hit: 28 (5d8 + 6) radiant damage. Undead receive double damage from this attack. This attack does not receive disadvantage due to being used within 5 feet of a hostile creature.
  • Summon Wisp (3/Day). The banelight summons a will-o’-wisp, for up to 1 minute.

ABOUT

Banelights are cruel fey who stalk mortals in the darkness and loathe the increasing ubiquity of mortal-made light.

Banelights are strangely social creatures, and they conduct bizarre courtship dances among themselves or with will-o’-wisps. In the absence of other fey to keep them company, banelights sometimes capture mortals to keep them entertained. While a good conversationalist can survive as a banelight’s “guest” for years, banelights are quick to dispatch companions who bore them.
