SPECIAL TRAITS

  • Legendary Resistance (3/Day). If the dragon fails a saving throw, it can choose to succeed instead.
  • Siege Monster. The dragon deals double damage to objects and structures.

ACTIONS

  • Multiattack. The dragon can use its Fearful Shriek. It then makes three attacks: one with its Tongue and two with its Claws.
  • Tongue. Melee Weapon Attack: +13 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 18 (2d10 + 7) piercing damage and the target must make a DC 21 Strength saving throw. On a failed save, the target is pulled to a space within 5 feet of the dragon.
  • Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +13 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (2d6 + 7) slashing damage.
  • Tail. Melee Weapon Attack: +13 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 15 (2d8 + 7) slashing damage.
  • Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +13 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 20 (3d8 + 7) piercing damage, and the target is grappled (escape DC 21) if it is a Large or smaller creature. Until this grapple ends, the target is restrained, and the dragon can’t use its Bite attack or Tongue attack on another target.
  • Fearful Shriek (3/Day). The dragon lets out a fearful shriek. Each time it shrieks before finishing a long rest, the shriek is louder and the effect is different, as detailed below. Each creature within 500 feet of the dragon and able to hear the shriek must make a saving throw.
    • First Shriek. Each creature that fails a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw is frightened for 1 minute. A frightened creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.
    • Second Shriek. Each creature that fails a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw is blinded, deafened and frightened for 1 minute. A frightened creature is can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.
    • Third Shriek. Each creature that is not an Undead or Construct makes a DC 18 Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 36 (8d8) necrotic damage . On a successful save, the creature takes half as much damage. Plant creatures and magical plants make the saving throw with disadvantage, and suffer maximum damage. Mundane trees and shrubs in the area don’t make a saving throw; they simply wither and die.

BONUS ACTIONS

  • Change Shape. The dragon magically polymorphs into a humanoid or beast that has a challenge rating no higher than its own, or back into its true form. It reverts to its true form if it dies. Any equipment it is wearing or carrying is absorbed or borne by the new form (the dragon’s choice). In a new form, the dragon retains its alignment, hit points, Hit Dice, ability to speak, proficiencies, and Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores, as well as this action. Its statistics and capabilities are otherwise replaced by those of the new form, except any class features or legendary actions of that form.

LEGENDARY ACTIONS

The dragon can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn. The dragon regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

  • Detect. The dragon makes a Wisdom (Perception) check.
  • Tail Attack. The dragon makes a tail attack.
  • Wing Attack (Costs 2 Actions). The dragon beats its wings. Each creature within 10 feet of the dragon must succeed on a DC 21 Dexterity saving throw or take 14 (2d6 + 7) bludgeoning damage and be knocked prone. The dragon can then fly up to half its flying speed.

ABOUT

The draig goch is a majestic creature with shimmering red scales that glint like polished rubies in the sunlight. It has large wings that span wide, allowing it to soar through the skies. Its piercing eyes are a brilliant shade of gold, and its regal presence commands respect.

Y draig goch (draig-GOKH), also known as the Red Dragon of Wales, is a symbol of protection and guardianship for the lands where it dwells. It is often associated with heroic tales and legends, defending the land from invaders and representing the resilience and strength of the nation.

The dragon’s primary goal is to protect and safeguard the people. It is known to intervene in times of crisis and danger, defending against threats with its formidable combat abilities. The draig goch’s legend often inspires heroes to stand up against oppression and fight for their homeland.

Draig gochs will ferociously defend their territory against other dragons, which is why they are such a potent symbol of nationhood. They try to conduct their battles away from the humanoids they defend, often taking their fights underground. Unfortunately, a draig goch is intimately tied to the land it defends, and wounds it suffers reverberate throughout its territory. A draig goch in dire straits can desolate a region of vegetation.

Encountering a draig goch is a life-altering event. To see one is a call to defend one’s homeland; to speak with one is the rallying cry for resistance against tyranny.
