SPECIAL TRAITS

  • Amphibious. The uilbheist can breathe both air and water.
  • Bonding. The uilbheist can magically bond with one creature it can see, immediately after spending at least 1 hour observing that creature while within 30 feet of it. The bond lasts until the uilbheist bonds with a different creature or until the bonded creature dies.
  • Multiple Heads. The uilbheist has three heads. While it has more than one head, the uilbheist has advantage on saving throws against being blinded, charmed, deafened, frightened, stunned, and knocked unconscious. Whenever the uilbheist takes 20 or more damage in a single turn, one of its heads dies. If all its heads die, the uilbheist dies.
  • Reactive Heads. For each head the uilbheist has beyond one, it gets an extra reaction that can be used only for opportunity attacks.
  • Reckless. At the start of its turn, the uilbheist can gain advantage on all melee weapon attack rolls it makes during that turn, but attack rolls against it have advantage until the start of its next turn.
  • Wakeful. While the uilbheist sleeps, at least one of its heads is awake.

ACTIONS

  • Multiattack. The uilbheist can use its Frightful Presence. It then makes as many Bite attacks as it has heads.
  • Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +10 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (2d8 + 5) piercing damage.
  • Frightful Presence. Each creature of the dragon’s choice that is within 120 feet of the dragon and aware of it must succeed on a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a creature’s saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the creature is immune to the dragon’s Frightful Presence for the next 24 hours.

REACTIONS

  • Shield. When a creature makes an attack against its bonded creature, the uilbheist grants a +2 bonus to the wearer’s AC if the uilbheist is within 15 feet of the wearer.

ABOUT

The uilbheist is a fearsome aquatic creature with multiple heads. These multiheaded sea monsters are known for their imposing presence and their role as guardians of the inlets and rocky coastlines. Despite their formidable appearance, their purpose is the protection of the islands rather than the destruction of sailors and ships.

The uilbheist’s (yulb-HEIST) primary purpose is to safeguard the northern lands and the waters around the islands. It is not known to actively seek out or attack ships, sailors, or other beings. Instead, it watches over the waters and inlets, ensuring the safety of the surrounding land. Its formidable appearance and abilities serve as a deterrent against any potential threats to the region.

Contacting the uilbheist is said to require specific rituals or ventures into the seas of the Otherworld, the realm from which these creatures originate. While they may not readily interact with humans, they are said to be willing to lend their aid to rituals and spells that involve the physical and environmental protection of the northern lands. These rituals might involve offerings or acts of reverence to gain the favor and assistance of these powerful aquatic guardians.
