SPECIAL TRAITS

  • Brave. The ghillie dhu has advantage on saving throws against being frightened.
  • Nimbleness. The ghillie dhu can move through a space occupied by a creature of a size larger than it.
  • Fey Ancestry. The fey has advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can’t put it to sleep.
  • Plant Camouflage. The ghillie dhu has advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks it makes in any terrain with ample obscuring vegetation.
  • Protective Guardian. The ghillie dhu has advantage on Charisma checks made to interact with Small or Tiny humanoids.

ACTIONS

  • Multiattack. The ghillie dhu makes two attacks: one with its Crushing Hug and one with its Lashing Vines.
  • Crushing Arms. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (3d6 + 4) bludgeoning damage, and the target is grappled (escape DC 14) if it is a Large or smaller creature. If the target is Large or smaller creature, the ghillie dhu can pull it up to 10 feet closer to itself. Until the grapple ends, the target takes 14 (3d6 + 4) bludgeoning damage at the start of each of the ghillie dhu s turns. The ghillie dhu can’t make another Crushing Hug attack while grappling a creature in this way.
  • Lashing Vines. Ranged Spell Attack: +4 to hit, range 30 ft., one creature. Hit: 9 (2d6 + 2) piercing damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 12 Dexterity saving throw or become restrained by twisting vines for 1 minute. A target restrained in this way can use an action to make a DC 12 Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check, ending the effect on itself on a success.
  • Fey Charm. The ghillie dhu can target one Small or Tiny humanoid it can see within 30 feet. The target must succeed on a DC 12 Wisdom saving throw or be charmed by the ghillie dhu for 1 minute. The charmed creature regards the ghillie dhu as a trusted friend to be heeded. The charm effect ends if the ghillie dhu attacks the target, if the target takes any damage, or if the ghillie dhu uses a bonus action to end the effect.

ABOUT

Cloaked in leaves and moss, the ghillie dhu blends seamlessly into the forest environment. It is of a small stature, but possesses strength and agility.

The ghillie dhu is a dark-haired and gentle fey creature found in birch woods near human settlements. It leads a solitary existence, rarely interacting with other creatures, including its own kind. The forest is its domain, and it protects and nurtures the flora and fauna within it. It prefers the birch tree over others and is most active at night, using the cover of darkness to move stealthily through the forest. Its diet consists of berries and nuts, avoiding meat entirely.

Unlike many fae creatures, it is not mischievous or malicious, but instead, it takes on a protective role, particularly towards children. The ghillie dhu is kind-hearted and devoted to the well-being of children, often comforting and directing lost travelers to safety. Though reticent, the ghillie dhu displays a gentle and affectionate nature towards Small and Tiny Humanoids. Many local legends speak of children being guided safely home by this benevolent creature.

Adults who trespass into the ghillie dhu’s territory face its aggressive and wrathful side. The creature becomes an avenger against those who harm the forest or its inhabitants. While it doesn’t seek conflict, it takes action against those who threaten the delicate balance of nature.
