SPECIAL TRAITS

  • Bonding. The morvarc’h can magically bond with one creature it can see, immediately after spending at least 1 hour observing that creature while within 30 feet of it. The bond lasts until the morvarc’h bonds with a different creature or until the bonded creature dies.
  • Freedom of Movement. The morvarc’h ignores difficult terrain, and magical effects can’t reduce its speed or cause it to be restrained. It can spend 5 feet of movement to escape from nonmagical restraints or being grappled.
  • Hold Breath. The morvarc’h can hold its breath for up to 30 minutes.
  • Keen Hearing. The morvarc’h has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing.
  • Saddle. The morvarc’h can wear a saddle on its back. One Medium or two Small creatures can sit on the saddle without squeezing. To make a melee attack against a target within 5 feet of the morvarc h, they must use spears or weapons with reach. If the morvarc’h dies, creatures hanging fall straight down, taking falling damage, and land in unoccupied spaces within 5 feet of the morvarc’hs position on the ground.
  • Water Walk. The morvarc’h can walk across water and other liquids as if they were solid ground.

ACTIONS

  • Multiattack. The morvarc’h makes two Hooves attacks.
  • Hooves. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (2d6 + 4) bludgeoning damage.
  • Flame Breath (Recharge 5-6). The morvarc’h exhales a 20-foot cone of flames. Each creature in that area must make a DC 12 Dexterity saving throw, taking 21 (6d6) fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

ABOUT

The morvarc’h is a majestic and powerful horse, known for its striking appearance. It has a black coat that shimmers like the depths of the ocean. Its mane and tail are long and flowing, resembling waves crashing upon the shore. The most remarkable feature of the morvarc’h is its ability to breathe flames through its nostrils.

A morvarc’h (MOR-vark) is a legendary creature that dwells near the coasts and shores. Its origin is shrouded in myth and folklore, and its connection to the sea and water is deeply ingrained in local culture.

A morvarc’h is known for its ability to gallop on water surfaces, a feat that grants it a reputation as a magical being. The flames it breathes are believed to be a manifestation of its connection to both fire and water.

Morvarc’hs are sought after as mounts or companions of legendary heroes, and more than one adventuring party has been hired to retrieve one at no small cost.
