SPECIAL TRAITS

• Fey Ancestry. The swarm has advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can’t put it to sleep.
• Innate Spellcasting. The swarm’s innate spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 13). It can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components:
  • At will: druidcraft
  • 1/day: entangle, faerie fire, goodberry, snare
• Keen Scent. The swarm has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on smell.
• Tiny. The pillywiggin can move through a space as narrow as 1 inch wide without squeezing.

ACTIONS

• Tiny Daggers. Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 0 ft., one target in the swarm’s space. Hit: 10 (4d4) piercing damage, or 5 (2d4) piercing damage if the swarm has half of its hit points or fewer.
• Pollen Cloud (Recharge 5-6). The pillywiggin releases a cloud of pollen in a 10-foot radius centered on itself. Creatures in that area must succeed on a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw or be affected by confusion as if under the effects of the confusion spell for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.

ABOUT

Pillywiggins are tiny, butterfly-winged fairies that measure about one inch in height. They possess the ability to change their size at will, making them capable of fitting into the smallest of flower petals or growing slightly larger for better interaction. Their wings and antennae resemble those of insects, and they are often mistaken for bugs due to their appearance.

These gentle creatures are deeply connected to the flora they inhabit. They are attracted to vibrant flowers like bluebells, cowslips, foxgloves, and thyme, especially those growing near oak trees. Pillywiggins live in small groups, often forming colonies around these favored plants. They spend their days frolicking among the blossoms, playing and dancing in the sunlight.

Pillywiggins are not known for bothering humans or engaging in pranks like many other fairies. Instead, they focus on nurturing and guarding the plants they call home. They are protective of their garden habitats, ensuring the health and prosperity of the flowers they reside in. Although they don’t pose a threat to humans, they have been known to participate in human celebrations and ceremonies, usually those related to nature and flowers.

These fairies sustain themselves on dew, nectar, and pollen, gathering these resources from the very flowers they care for. Their diet is closely tied to the plants’ well-being, making them harmonious guardians of the floral world.

Pillywiggins make for valuable familiars, but they are truly only a threat in great numbers, where they swarm like angry bees against intruders.
