Special Traits

  • Cadaverous Appearance. While the plague-born is lying still, it is indistinguishable from a mundane decomposing corpse. It can still be detected by a detect evil and good spell, or similar magic.
  • Mindless Aggression. If the plague-born uses the Dash action, and ends its movement within 5 feet of a creature, it can make a melee weapon attack against that creature as a bonus action. After making this attack, it can’t move any further on that turn.
  • Undead Fortitude. If damage reduces the plague-born to 0 hit points, it must make a Constitution saving throw with a DC of 5 + the damage taken, unless the damage is radiant or from a critical hit. On a success, the plague-born drops to 1 hit point instead.

Actions

  • Multiattack. The plague-born makes two attacks: one with its slam and one with its bite.
  • Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d8 + 4) bludgeoning damage, and the target is grappled (escape DC 12). Until this grapple ends, the plague-born can’t use its slam against another target.
  • Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 4) piercing damage. Additionally, living creatures must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution saving throw, or take 9 (2d8) necrotic damage and contract the zombie necrosis disease (p.192).
