Initiate of Thanatokenesis

Prerequisite(s): Sorcerer, warlock, or wizard level 12+

Power over the very energies of death and unlife, dancing like flickers of cinder & ash upon your pale fingertips.

There are more ways – unnatural though they may be – to access the dark gifts of the corpse-born than mere heredity; by your deep scholarly studies, the fabled Necromancy of Blood’s Path now lies within your living grasp.

Choose any one necromancy spell whose spell level is no higher than one-half your character level; this spell must have a casting time of one action or less. For example, if you were a character of 12th level or higher, you could choose circle of death. As an action, you can use this chosen spell as a cantrip. You cannot use this cantrip while in direct sunlight. You must choose this spell at the time you take this feat and you cannot select a different spell at a later time. The DC for saving throw against this spell is equal to 8 + proficiency bonus + your spellcasting ability modifier. A spell you cast using this feat is suppressed and has no effect if you enter direct sunlight, though its duration continues to elapse; if any duration remains when you leave the area of direct sunlight, the spell’s duration resumes.

You may gain this feat multiple times. Each time you gain this feat, you choose another necromancy spell of a level no higher than one half your character level with a casting time of one action or less.

Designer’s Note: This ability is particularly well-known amongst Black Mages, and among those who serve the Horseman of the Apocalypse, particularly the Horseman of War.
