Bag of Burning Caltrops

Weapon (caltrops), rare (requires attunement by a fighter or rogue)

This red and orange leather bag holds a dozen +1 caltrops made of glowing red and orange metal. They shed dim orange light in a 5 foot radius.

Radiates: Conjuration and evocation magic.

Power: You may reach into this alchemist’s bag as an action and scatter a dozen +1 caltrops in a 10 x 10 foot area that spray liquid fire into a 10 x 10 foot puddle. This functions exactly as the grease spell except the difficult terrain is made of liquid fire.

The caltrops do 2 points of piercing damage and 1d4 points of fire damage to any creature that enters the puddle unless it succeeds at a Dexterity save with a DC equal to 8 + your Dexterity modifier + your proficiency bonus. A creature that fails its saving throw but leaves the puddle continues to take 1d4 fire damage at the start of its turn for 2 additional rounds.

Any creature that begins its turn in the puddle takes 1d4 fire damage for each turn it remains or until the puddle melts away.

The fire will set flammable items ablaze that are not worn or carried. The fire may also burn a hole through any viable objects or floors it comes into contact with at the GM’s discretion, or set a larger fire going.

After 1 minute, the caltrops and puddle melt away and the caltrops reform inside the bag. Any items that it set ablaze remain on fire until consumed or the flames are extinguished. You may use this power once per short or long rest.

Special: If you are a rogue, you may use this power as a bonus action instead of the Dash, Disengage, or Hide actions granted by Cunning Action.
