Bound Engulfer

Wondrous item, legendary (requires attunement – special)

This small wooden puzzle box has intricate carvings around each of its surfaces that depict a rat-like creature in various stages of decomposition.

Attunement. In order to successfully attune to the Bound Engulfer, you must first succeed on DC 15 Intelligence saving throw. On a failure, a gelatinous cube is summoned directly on top of you and the Bound Engulfer is teleported 30 feet away from you in a random direction. On a success, you attune to the Bound Engulfer as normal. While attuned to the Bound Engulfer you are immune to being blinded, charmed, deafened, or frightened.

The Bound Engulfer has 3 charges. It regains all expended charges every day at dawn.

Summon Engulfer. You may use your action to spend 1 charge and summon a gelatinous cube onto any point that you can see within 30 feet of you. The summoned cube’s save DCs are 15 and it remains on the field and under your control for 1 minute or until it is destroyed, at which point it returns to the Bound Engulfer. You may spend additional charges to alter this property in the following ways:

  • You may spend 1 charge to increase the distance that you can summon the cube by 15 feet.
  • You may spend 1 charge to increase the cube’s acid damage by 2d6.
  • You may spend 1 charge to increase the cube’s save DCs by 1.
  • You may spend 1 charge to increase the duration of the cube’s stay by 1 minute.
  • You may spend 1 charge to increase the cube’s hit points by 3d10.
