Mythward Scepter

Rod, very rare (requires attunement by a spellcaster)

This set of items (including mythward ring and mythward scepter) was crafted to infuse a spellcaster’s castings with raw magic. If a character is attuned to both ring and rod, both become Awakened and gain various improvements.

This magical scepter is crafted from an elderwood branch wrapped around a fragment of mythward. While you re holding it, the scepter grants the following benefits:

  • You gain a +1 bonus to spell attack rolls.
  • You can cast the detect magic spell at will.
  • The scepter has 3 charges and regains all expended charges daily at dawn. As an action, you can expend 1 charge to warp magic in a 30-foot radius around you for 1 minute or until you let go of the scepter.

Any creature that casts a spell of 1st level or higher within this area must roll a d10. If the result is equal to or lower than the spell’s level, the casting also creates a random magical effect rolled on the Wild Magic Effects table.

Awakened. When the scepter reaches an Awakened state, it grants the following benefits while you re holding it:

  • The bonus to your spell attack rolls increases to +2.
  • When a creature you can see within 60 feet of you casts a spell, you can use your reaction and expend 1 charge to force the creature to make a spellcasting ability check (DC 10 + the spell’s level). On a failure, the spell fails and the caster instead creates a random magical effect rolled on the Wild Magic Effects table.
