Seal of Miquito

Wondrous item, very rare (requires attunement by a celestial or fiend)

This strange stone vessel is circular shaped, about six inches in diameter and three inches tall. The sides bear thousands of ancient runes, while a grinning skull is carved into the top. The seal separates into two pieces and feels unusually light as it is hollow. As an action, the seal’s celestial or fiendish owner can force the soul of any humanoid that it can see within 100 feet of it to depart its body and enter the seal. The target resists being possessed with a successful DC 20 Charisma saving throw, which also prevents the owner from trying to possess the target for 24 hours. On a failed saving throw, the target’s soul leaves the body and is trapped within the seal. Once used in this way, the seal cannot be used again for seven days.

The target’s body falls into a catatonic state. If the seal is destroyed and the target’s body is less than 100 feet away from the seal and is still alive, the soul returns to the body and the target regains consciousness. Otherwise, the target dies. The seal cannot contain more than one soul at any time. If another soul already occupies the seal, the attempt to possess another soul automatically fails. The owner can free a trapped soul from the seal as an action. A celestial uses this magic item to bring a worthy soul to its just rewards in the afterlife. Fiends use the seal to sacrifice unwilling souls to their fiendish masters or a malevolent deity.
