Spiritworld Flute

Wondrous item, very rare

Fashioned from a 4-foot length of thick bamboo finished with deep red lacquer and painted with traditional characters, this transverse flute is played by resting it across the shoulder. You can use an action to play the flute, creating a haunting and mystic drone capable of blurring reality.

Those within 30 feet of you that hear you play must succeed at a DC 15 Charisma saving throw or be forced to pass through the spirit realms. The affected individual turns ethereal, as the spell etherealness, where they immediately face the wrath of a swarm of angry spirits. At the end of each of the victim’s turns, it can make another Charisma saving throw. If it succeeds, the individual returns to the Material Plane, unable to clearly recall anything that occurred during last 5 minutes as per the modify memory spell. Upon return, the victim has disadvantage on ability checks and attack rolls; creatures immune to the frightened condition do not have disadvantage. The victim may continue to make a new Charisma saving throw at the end of each of its turns. If it succeeds, it no longer suffers disadvantage. Once you have used the flute, it can’t be used again until the next dawn.
