Staves of Ghul

Weapon (battlestaves), artifact (requires attunement by creature of non-good alignment)

While he was alive, Ghul wielded two short battlestaves (maces) imbued with great power.

When holding both of them, you gain the use of the following abilities.

  • You gain a +2 bonus to AC and saves.
  • When you hit with a melee attack using a battlestaff, the target takes an additional 1d8 necrotic damage.
  • You can use your action to cast one of the following spells (DC 17): disintegrate, fear, or wall of force. The battlestaves maintain concentration on the fear or wall of force spell so you don’t have to.
  • You can use your action to cast a wish spell.

Once you use this property, you cannot use it again until seven days have passed.

Sentience. The battlestaves are sentient chaotic evil weapons with an Intelligence of 10, a Wisdom of 9, and a Charisma of 13. They have hearing and darkvision out to a range of 120 feet. They communicate empathically, urging you to commit acts of violence, cruelty, and domination.

Personality. The battlestaves function as one mind shared by two separate objects. Their goal is to promote evil, dominate others, and accumulate power. They are aggressive and cruel. If their bearer’s wish tries to accomplish something kind or benevolent, they may withhold this power or weave in a detrimental effect.
