Sunrise Icon

Wondrous item, very rare (requires attunement)

This holy symbol of wood polished to a golden sheen or plated in gold, often embossed with other metals and engraved with runes of holiness, strikes terror into vampires that behold it. With the sunrise icon in hand, you can affect vampires with dread. A successful melee weapon attack with the sunrise icon suppresses a vampire’s regeneration ability and it must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened. At the end of each of the vampire’s turns, it can make another Wisdom saving throw to end this condition.

As an action you may hold vampires at bay as a magic circle spell, but only against vampires. In addition, creatures within the circle are protected against vampiric attack as the sanctuary spell (DC 20 Wisdom saving throw). As the spell, if any warded creature makes an attack or casts a spell that affects an enemy creature, this spell ends. This effect lasts until the beginning of your next turn and can be continued in subsequent rounds again using an action to trigger it. A vampire who saves against this effect of the sunrise icon cannot be affected by it again for 24 hours.

In addition to its effects against vampires, a sunrise icon is a potent aid to Channel Divinity. All undead creatures have disadvantage on their saving throw against your Channel Divinity, when turning any undead. The Wisdom saving throw to resist is made with disadvantage, and the area is affected as if you cast the hallow spell (with either daylight, energy protection (necrotic), or eternal rest as an added effect). The duration of this effect is Concentration, up to 1 minute, and after using this ability you cannot use it again until you complete a long rest.
