Valiant

Weapon (longsword), major, legendary (requires attunement by a creature of lawful alignment)

Originally a sword of utmost good, Valiant has been permanently tainted by a century spent embedded in the skull of a devil. You gain a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon. It has the following additional properties.

Fiend Slayer. When you hit a fiend with this sword, the target takes an extra 2d8 radiant damage.

Spells. Valiant has 6 charges. While holding it, you can use an action to expend 1 or more of its charges to cast one of the following spells from it (save DC 13, spellcasting ability modifier +3):

creation (5 charges), detect evil and good (1 charge), holy bolt (3 charges; as lightning bolt except that it deals radiant damage instead of lightning damage), or mass healing word (3 charges). The sword regains 1d4 + 2 expended charges each day at dawn.

Sentience. Valiant is a sentient lawful neutral weapon with an Intelligence of 10, a Wisdom of 12, and a Charisma of 16. It has hearing and normal vision out to a range of 60 feet. The weapon communicates by transmitting emotions to the creature wielding it. The wielder feels the sword’s emotions strongly, but recognizes that the sword is the source of them.

Personality. While Valiant’s personality was once compassionate and searched for the good in all creatures, years of contact with the forces of evil have caused it to become short tempered and erratic.

Valiant’s purpose is to combat fiends and creatures that serve chaos. It believes that evil and chaos must be confronted wherever they are found, and is loyal to its wielder above all else so long as they behave in a lawful manner. If the sword is used against a creature of a non-evil lawful alignment, a conflict occurs between it and its wielder.
