Certain benevolent orders have mastered the secrets of inscribing protective enchantments in written form for their servants and soldiers to use when no direct spellcaster support is available. These warding scrolls function like ordinary spell scrolls, but most of the magical effects are streamlined and embedded in the scroll in such a way that they can be read and cast by anyone able to read.

A warding scroll grants the benefit of a magic circle spell keyed to one specific type of creature, which is decided at the time the protection scroll is inscribed. A protection scroll always keeps creatures of the chosen type out of the area, never keeping them inside it.
