Asmodean

Asmodeans are former angels banished to Purgatory. Though their realm is one of neutrality, their anger and sadness has transformed them into horrifying infernal beings.

Traits

Ability Score Increase. Two different ability scores of your choice increase by 1.

Age. All Asmodeans are ageless adults.

Alignment. Though confined to Purgatory, Asmodeans bear that same bitterness and hatred toward mortals as demons and devils. They are chaotic evil, though if they have been summoned, they must follow the dictates of their summoner.

Rarity. Legendary.

Size. Asmodeans stand 5 to 7 feet tall and weigh accordingly, depending on their form. Your size is Medium.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Demonic Sight. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness within the same range as if it were dim light. Absent even dim light, this vision is monochromatic. In addition, magical darkness does not impede your darkvision.

Asmodean Steed. At 3rd level, you learn the find steed spell and regain the ability to cast it each time you finish a short or long rest. Your steed is a fiend that speaks Infernal, and it has an appearance you choose and the statistics of an animal your GM allows. Work with your GM to change traits, such as attacks, to match your steed’s appearance.

Asmodean Expertise. Choose one skill in which you have proficiency. Double your proficiency bonus for that skill.

Change Shape. As an action, you can take on the shape of a human with an appearance specific to you or return to your fiendish form. Your human form can be of different proportions than your fiendish one, provided your size remains Medium. No matter what your form, a creature who casts detect evil and good while able to see and within 30 feet of you can see a fiendish sigil, unique to you, floating above your head. While in this form, your steed from your Asmodean Steed trait disappears and you cannot cast the version of find steed you learned from that trait. You can maintain this form indefinitely, but you return to normal form if you die.

Heritage (Fiend). You are humanoid, but you are considered to be a fiend whenever it is detrimental for you.

Sin Sense. You can use your action to understand the general nature of the sins of a creature you can see within 30 feet of you. For example, you could tell someone’s soul is stained by gluttony, lust, or wrath, but not know what sins they have committed.

Swarm Magic. You know the infestation cantrip. Starting at 9th level, you can cast insect plague as a 5th-level spell once per day. Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma (your choice) is your spellcasting ability for these spells, and you require no material components for them.

Languages. You speak, read, and write Common, Celestial, and Infernal.

Unique Appearance. The appearance of each Asmodean varies wildly from the rest. You are encouraged to draw your character so that other players can envision them as you do. Even though you can add cosmetic features when depicting your character, such as wings, claws, or extra arms, these features have no function in the game. Of course, you can work with your GM to have these features emulate traits from other races in this book.
