Devil, Pine

Pine devils are infernal beings created through witchcraft. They are not beings of Hell, though they draw from several devil lineages for their infernal power. The witches who birth them expect them to follow their bidding, but some break away from their mothers to create havoc as they see fit. They enjoy terrorizing small villages, leaving burning hoof prints as a prelude for their nightly attacks.

Traits

Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score increases by 2.

Age. Pine devils have bizarre aging patterns. After birth the infant spontaneously becomes a child after 13 hours. They remain a child for 13 years, then spontaneously become an adult. Pine devils are ageless.

Alignment. Pine devils live to corrupt and destroy creation. They are chaotic evil.

Rarity. Mythical.

Size. A pine devil stands up to 8 feet tall and weighs around 500 pounds. Your size is Medium.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness within the same range as if it were dim light. Absent even dim light, this vision is monochromatic.

Accursed Trail. Your steps cause organic material, such as inanimate plants and humus in soil, to wither as if exposed to intense heat. Someone tracking you has advantage on checks to do so. A pass without trace spell that includes you as a target eliminates this problem while the spell lasts, but you leave a normal trail instead.

Devilish Resilience. You have resistance to poison damage. In addition, you can add your proficiency bonus to saving throws against being poisoned. If you have proficiency in such a saving throw, your proficiency bonus is doubled against being poisoned.

Heritage (Fiend).You are humanoid, but you are considered to be a fiend whenever it is detrimental for you.

Hex. You can cast hex as a 1st-level spell once per day without material components. When you reach 5th level, you regain the ability to cast this spell each time you finish a short or long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for it.

Menacing. You have proficiency in the Intimidation skill.

Weak Wings. You have wings, but they aren’t yet strong enough to grant you full flight. Provided you have space double what you require (usually 10 feet), you can flap your wings to jump as if you had a 10-foot running start. If you can do so and have a 10-foot start, double the distance you jump. When you fall, provided you have double your space to open them, you can use your wings to slow your fall to 60 feet per round, taking no damage from falling. Also, for every 10 feet you fall, you can move 10 feet horizontally. Each foot you move horizontally this way counts as 1 foot of movement. You have access to the Improved Wings and Strong Wings feats.

Languages. You speak, read, and write Common, and Infernal. Some pine devils might embrace their equine heritage and learn to speak Houyhnhnm.
