Dragonette

Dragonettes are people-sized dragons in Faerie from birth to 60 years old. They have glittering green, blue, pink or purple scales, bright yellow eyes, and jaws full of sharp teeth. The rest of their bodies are less impressive—it’s clear from anyone looking at a dragonette that it is a juvenile. That doesn’t make them any less dangerous, however. Dragons can live thousands of years, so dragonettes consider themselves babies. This classification gives them quite a bit of leeway when it comes to dragonkind, as they are considered so useful as to the point of unaccountability for their actions.

Dragonettes who are not under the careful and attentive care of a parent inevitably escape into the outer world to have adventures. A few have been lured into service by Roganda, Queen of the Unicorns, but there are most surely others.

All dragonettes are descended from the Original Dragon, the first being ever created and the oldest and wisest of all. The Original Dragon still lives in Fairyland. Anyone who has met a dragonette knows they have strayed far from their progenitor. Dragonettes tend to be wild and feral; their parents tie them up by their tails to rocks to keep them from ravaging the countryside. This is as much for their protection as for the residents of Faerie; there is a creature known as a choggenmugger that feasts on dragonettes, preying on them while they are young. Officially, dragonettes and their kin are only allowed on the surface every hundred years to find food. In addition to dodging the choggenmugger, this is to keep the appetites of dragonettes under control. It understandably vexes the hungrier ones, who often seek to escape. Dragonettes come in a variety of colors, ranging from purple, to blue, to green, and red. Purple dragons are considered the worst as they are both devious and difficult to defeat. Most dragonettes are green. Black dragons are believed to come from Yin.

Older Dragonette

Prerequisite(s): Dragonette

You eat enough that you grow a size. You gain the following benefits: Increase your Strength score by 2, to a maximum of 20. Your size is now Large. Your bite inflicts 1d8 instead of 1d6 damage. Your claws and tail inflict 1d6 slashing and bludgeoning damage, respectively. Your flight speed increases to 30 feet.

Traits

  • Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 1.
  • Alignment. Dragonettes tend toward the chaotic, as they have little use for rules. Those unrestrained by a conscience are evil while dragonettes exposed to other cultures tend to be good. Dragonettes encountered in the wild are likely neutral.
  • Bite. Your fanged maw is a natural weapon, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with it, you deal piercing damage equal to 1d6 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.
  • Breath Weapon. You can use your action to exhale fire in a 15 ft. cone. When you use your breath weapon, each creature in the area of the exhalation must make a saving throw, the type of which is determined by your draconic ancestry. The DC for this saving throw equals 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus. A creature takes 2d6 damage on a failed save, and half as much damage on a successful one. The damage increases to 3d6 at 6th level, 4d6 at 11th level, and 5d6 at 16th level. After you use your breath weapon, you can’t use it again until you complete a short or long rest.
  • Color Damage Type Breath Weapon
Black Fire 15 ft. cone (Dex. save)
Blue Lightning 5 by 30 ft. line (Dex. save)
Green Fire 15 ft. cone (Dex. save)
Pink Psychic 15 ft. cone (Int. save)
Purple Acid 5 by 30 ft. line (Dex. save)
Silver Fire 15 ft. cone (Dex. save)
White Fire 15 ft. cone (Dex. save)
    • Claws. Your claws are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with your claws, you deal slashing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier. In all cases this damage replaces the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.
    • Damage Resistance. You have resistance to fire damage.
    • Dragonette Build. Your unusual shape prevents you from wearing armor that isn’t specially made for your form (at four times the cost). You can wear a shield and wield weapons normally in your claws.
    • Flight. You have a flying speed of 20 feet. To use this speed, you can’t be wearing medium or heavy armor.
    • Lashing Tail. Immediately after a creature within 5 feet of you deals damage to you with a melee attack, you can use your reaction to make an unarmed strike against that creature with your tail. If you hit, you deal slashing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.
    • Natural Armor. You have tough, scaly skin. When you aren’t wearing armor, your AC is 13 + your Dexterity modifier. You can use your natural armor to determine your AC if the armor you wear would leave you with a lower AC. A shield‘s benefits apply as normal while you use your natural armor.
    • Type. Your creature type is both dragon and humanoid.
