Elemental, Earth

Earth elementals are primordial beings naturally formed from the coalescence of magic, soil, and stone. They move slowly, but they are strong and sturdy. They can also speak with rocks. Earth elementals originate from the elemental realm of earth, but they can manifest on the Mortal Plane. Elementals occur naturally, formed with wild elemental magic. Golems are constructs given life by the use of magic, though they can share the appearance and composition of some elementals.


Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 2.

Age. Earth elementals mature into independent, thinking beings after about 20 years. Thereafter, they are ageless.

Alignment. Like most elementals, earth elementals are individualistic and fickle, tending to the chaotic. However, most earth elementals consider guarding the earth, natural places, and weaker innocent creatures a duty that can’t be shirked. Therefore, many are good.

Rarity. Rare.

Size. Earth elementals are massive, approaching 8 feet tall and weighing up to 600 pounds. Your size is Medium.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 25 feet. Wearing heavy armor doesn’t reduce this speed.

Burrow. You have a burrowing speed of 5 feet.

Crumble. Using your action, you can break into smaller chunks, causing everything you’re wearing and carrying to transform with you. This form lasts while you focus on it, as if concentrating on a spell. While in this form, you have a base walking speed of 10 feet, and you can enter and occupy the space of another creature. Other creatures can enter and occupy your space, which is difficult terrain. You can move through spaces as if you were a Tiny creature without squeezing. In this form, you can’t manipulate objects, attack, or cast spells, and objects that transformed with you can’t be interacted with. You can use this ability again only after you finish a long rest.

Living Elemental (Earth). You are a humanoid, but your elemental nature gives you the following traits.

  • You are immune to disease, and you have resistance to poison damage. Also, you can add your proficiency bonus to saving throws against being poisoned. If you have proficiency in such a saving throw, your proficiency bonus is doubled against being poisoned.
  • You need not eat, drink, or breathe.
  • You are considered to be an elemental creature made of stone whenever it is detrimental for you.

Speak with Earth. As part of a short rest, you can enter a trance to speak to the earth and stone, including worked stone, near you. While you do so, you are unconscious. The earth and stones within 30 feet of you impart impressions of what has happened around and to them, along with what they contain or conceal within range.

Languages. You speak, read, and write Common and Elemental. Dwarvish is commonly spoken among earth elementals, who are likely to have contact with dwarves.
