Elemental, Fire

Fire elementals are primordial beings naturally formed from the coalescence of magic and fire. They can control their flames so as not to burn their surroundings. Fire elementals originate from the elemental realm of fire, but they can manifest on the Mortal Plane. They fervently avoid water.


Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score and your Charisma score each increase by 1.

Age. A fire elemental can become a self-aware “adult” in about three years. These elementals can live indefinitely.

Alignment. Fire elementals are capricious and egotistical, focused on their personal whims. They have little concern for morals or consequences. Most fire elementals are chaotic neutral.

Rarity. Rare.

Size. A fire elemental is humanlike in height, but their body of ash and flame weighs only 40 pounds or so. Your size is Medium.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 40 feet.

Fiery Attacks. You know the produce flame cantrip. In addition to this spell’s normal uses, you can use it to make a melee spell attack, ending the spell and, if you hit, dealing its normal damage. Constitution or Charisma (your choice) is your spellcasting ability for this spell.

Glow. Using an action or bonus action, you can shed bright light in a 30-foot radius and dim light for 30 more feet. You can dim this illumination, appearing as cold ash, as another action or bonus action.

Leaping Fire. Double the distance you can jump.

Living Elemental (Fire). You are a humanoid, but your elemental nature gives you the following traits.

  • You are immune to disease, and you have resistance to fire and poison damage. In addition, you can add your proficiency bonus to saving throws against fire and being poisoned. You do the same for any ability check or saving throw to extinguish fire burning on you. If you have proficiency in such a check or saving throw, your proficiency bonus with it is doubled for these purposes.
  • You need not drink.
  • You are vulnerable to cold damage.
  • You are considered to be an elemental creature made of fire whenever it is detrimental for you.

Speak with Fire. As part of a short rest, you can enter a trance to speak to fire, whether smoldering embers or a conflagration. While you do so, you are unconscious. Fire within 30 feet of you imparts impressions of what has happened around it, along with what it consumed or could not burn within range.

Thermal Updrafts. If you cast levitate or fly on yourself, the duration of the spell’s effect on you is concentration, up to 1 hour.

Languages. You speak, read, and write Common and Elemental. Many fire elementals also know Infernal.
