Equus are sentient ponies who can speak. They are smaller than horses and true unicorns, but solidly built and capable of amazing feats if they put their mind to it. The equus are native to both Gugu Forest in Gillikin Country and Equitatus Forest in Munchkin Country. In Gugu Forest, the equus are subservient to the other animals; in Equitatus they are the ruling class. A great schism between them erupted when many equus decided to leave Queen Roganda’s rule over the War on Man, when beasts decided to wage war against humanoids. Queen Roganda refused, but many equus defected, led by Loo, a unicorn who pledged his allegiance to King Gugu. Unbeknownst to Gugu, Loo was a double agent. It was he who shared the secret of the polymorph phrase, “pyrzqxgl!” that allows the beasts to transform into other shapes. Roganda uses it secretly with her unicorns when she sends them out into other worlds. Equus names tend to be a combination of their personality and their colt mark. A colt’s mark speaks volumes about the equus wearing it.

  • Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score increases by 2.
  • Age. Equus mature and age at about the same rate as humans.
  • Colt Mark. You have a mark on your flank that identifies your chosen skill. Equus get their colt marks when they become adolescents. You have advantage when using that skill. This colt mark appears more subtly in both your Humanoid and Hybrid forms.
  • Equus Build. You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push or drag. In addition, climbing that requires hands and feet is especially difficult for you because of your hooves, so each foot of movement costs you 4 extra feet instead of the normal 1. Any action that requires fine dexterity, hands, or fingers can be performed by using your teeth or hooves, but with disadvantage—this includes wielding weapons. You can only wear barding armor, which costs four times the price of humanoid armor.
  • Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common, Equus, and Sylvan.
  • Pony Up. You can transform to a hybrid form or humanoid form by saying “Pyrzqxgl!” You must be able to speak to switch between forms. You can use this feature once at 1st level, twice at 3rd level, and three times at 6th level. You regain the use of this trait after a short or long rest. Your equine form is considered your “true” form. You can revert to your true form at will. Each form has a set appearance based on the individual. The mechanics of transforming to your Humanoid or Hybrid Form works the same as the Druid feature Wild Shape except limited to your equus, humanoid, and hybrid forms. Transformation takes one round to complete and the equus can take no other actions during this time. When slain, equus do not change shape. When you transform, you retain your own hit points and Hit Dice. You retain the benefit of any features from your class or other sources and can use them if the new form is physically capable of doing so. Worn equipment functions as normal, but the GM decides whether it is practical for the new form to wear a piece of equipment, based on the creature’s shape and size. Your equipment doesn’t change size or shape to match the new form, and any equipment that the new form can’t wear must either fall to the ground or merge with it. Equipment that merges with the form has no effect until you leave the form.
  • Size. Your size is Medium.
  • Speed. Your base walking speed is 40 feet.
  • Type. Your creature type is both fey and humanoid.
