Gargoyles are a powerful winged race that live on the rooftops of buildings, usually those with religious significance. They see themselves as the protectors of the settlements they live in. When they sleep, they turn into stone.

Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 2, and your Strength score increases by 1.

Age. After hatching from an egg-like stone nodule, a gargoyle reaches maturity like a human, and can live to be over 150.

Alignment. Gargoyles are drawn to sites of power, magical or spiritual, which they protect from harm. They do so selflessly but without regard for the strictures of others at the site, such as clergy or sorcerers. Most gargoyles are neutral good.

Rarity. Rare.

Size. A gargoyle is tall and burly, standing up to 8 feet tall and weighing around 500 pounds. Your size is Medium.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness within the same range as if it were dim light. Absent even dim light, this vision is monochromatic.

Heritage (Giant). You are a humanoid, but you are considered to be a giant whenever it is detrimental for you.

Natural Weapons. You have natural weapons that allow your unarmed strikes to deal ld4 bludgeoning damage (horns), piercing damage (bite or tail), or slashing damage (claws). Your natural weapons have the light and finesse properties, and you have proficiency with them.

Stone Sleep. Over 1 minute, during which you are incapacitated, you can become petrified. Provided you aren’t in natural sunlight, you can cease being petrified (including from another source) as an action. In sunlight, the process takes 1 minute. You can remain petrified for as long as you wish, and to benefit from a long rest, you must remain petrified for at least 4 hours, resting for the other 4.

Stony Death. When you die, you turn to stone, and so your corpse weighs five times your normal weight.

Sunlight Sensitivity. You have disadvantage on attack rolls and Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight when you, your target, or what you’re trying to see is in direct sunlight.

Weak Wings. You have wings, but they aren’t yet strong enough to grant you full flight. Provided you have space double what you require (usually 10 feet), you can flap your wings to jump as if you had a 10-foot running start. If you can do so and have a 10-foot start, double the distance you jump. When you fall, provided you have double your space to open them, you can use your wings to slow your fall to 60 feet per round, taking no damage from falling. Also, for every 10 feet you fall, you can move 10 feet horizontally. Each foot you move horizontally this way counts as 1 foot of movement. You have access to the Improved Wings and Strong Wings feats (see Appendix A).

Languages. You speak, read, and write Common. Most gargoyles also speak Troll.
