Golem, Steam

Created to aid furbold engineers, they originally worked as laborers and assisted with day-to-day experimentation. They have extendable hands to reach high shelves and other hard-to-get items.

Unlike other golems, steam golems must keep their technology powered or they will deactivate.

Traits

Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 2, and your Strength score increases by 1.

Age. All steam golems are built as adults. They don’t age.

Alignment. Though created as enforcers, steam golems seldom bear ill will toward others, even those who would attempt to harm them. Many steam golems are neutral good.

Rarity. Rare.

Size. Steam golems are typically 6 feet tall and weigh 450 pounds. Your size is Medium.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Cooldown. You have disadvantage on saving throws against the effects of cold. When you take cold damage, your speed is reduced by 10 feet until the end of your next turn.

Armor Integration. With 8 hours of work, your armor can be integrated into your body, so you can’t take it off without 4 hours of work. Integrated heavy armor doesn’t reduce your speed, and it imposes no disadvantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks.

Extending Hand. If you take the Grappler feat, you gain limb extensions that allow you to grapple with a reach of 10 feet. If you grapple a foe or grab a willing ally, you can use a bonus action to pull that target to within 5 feet of you. An unwilling target can avoid being pulled by succeeding on a Strength saving throw (DC = 8 + your Strength modifier + your proficiency bonus).

Living Construct. You are a humanoid, but your constructed nature gives you the following traits.

  • You are immune to disease and have resistance to poison damage. Also, you can add your proficiency bonus to saving throws against being poisoned. If you have proficiency in such a saving throw, your proficiency bonus is doubled against being poisoned.

You need not eat, drink, or breathe.

You need not sleep, and don’t suffer the effects from lack of rest. Magic can’t put you to sleep.

During a long rest, which you still need, you remain conscious and aware.

Mighty. Calculate your carrying capacity and the weight you can drag, push, and lift as if you were Large.

Overheat. You can grant yourself advantage on a Strength check, or you can reroll the d20 after failing such a check, taking the new result. After doing so, you gain one level of exhaustion for 1 minute.

Steam-Powered Strikes. You have the Tavern Brawler feat, and your unarmed strikes have the light property, but you must use the feat’s ability score increase for your Strength.

Languages. You speak, read, and write Common.

Depending on who created them, steam golems might speak, read, and write Gnomish or Goblin.
