Lycan

Lycans are humans afflicted with a virulent form of lycanthropy that keeps them in wolf form, though they can temporarily revert to human shape. They have heightened senses and become more wild during the full moon. Silver burns them.

Traits

Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 2, and your Strength score increases by 1.

Age. If born with the curse, another humanoid becomes an adult (and often tragically feral) lycan within seven years. Lycans can live to be 120 years old.

Alignment. Lycans instinctively value a hierarchical pack and their place within such a society. They tend to be lawful within a social order they have accepted. As violent creatures unconcerned with typical morality or helping those weaker than they are, lycans are rarely good.

Rarity. Uncommon.

Size. Although a lycan could be afflicted as a Small creature, they are all the size of a human. Your size is Medium.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 35 feet.

Heritage (Lycanthrope). You are humanoid, but you are considered to be a lycanthrope whenever it is detrimental for you.

Human Shape. You can alter your form to appear as a specific humanoid that can pass for a human. This appearance is unique to you and doesn’t change. While in this form, you lack your natural weapons. You can maintain the form indefinitely as if concentrating on a spell. Only injury can break your concentration, but you can maintain it by succeeding at a DC 10 Wisdom check. However, when the moon is full and in the sky, you must attempt this check every hour or revert to your lycan form for the rest of the night.

Natural Weapons. You have fangs and claws, and so your unarmed strikes can deal ld4 piercing damage (bite) or slashing damage (claws). Your natural weapons have the light and finesse properties, and you have proficiency with them.

Silver Sensitivity. You are vulnerable to bludgeoning damage, piercing damage, and slashing damage dealt by silvered weapons.

Speak with Wolves. You can communicate with wolves as if you shared a language.

Wolf Senses. You have proficiency in the Perception and Survival skills. Double your proficiency bonus when you attempt Wisdom (Perception) checks with your senses of hearing and smell.

Languages. You speak, read, and write Common.

There are other strains of the were curse that alter those infected into different animal forms, such as weretigers, werehyenas, wererats, and even wereswans and weredragons. If you wish to play as a variant were species, use the various other animal races in this book as a template and add the Human Shape and Silver Sensitivity traits to that character.
