Magical Girl

Magical girls are humans given the ability to transform into powerful female personas. They are charged with protecting the Mortal Plane from otherworldly evils.

Each can conjure a familiar. While some personas are unique to certain individuals, others can be shared and passed down from one generation to the next.

Magical girls draw their power from the Knowing, the higher realm of imagination and source of all magic.


Ability Score Increase. Your Charisma score increases by 2, and your Intelligence score increases by 1.

Age. Magical girls arise from adults. They can live as long as humans, but rarely survive past 30.

Alignment. Magical girls protect the Mortal Plane against existential threats from the Knowing. This can put them at odds with the laws of society. Most are chaotic good.

Rarity. Mythical.

Size. Magical girls emerge from humans. Your size is Medium.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Animal Buddy. You can cast find familiar without material components, but your familiar’s form is unique and can’t be changed. This familiar has a costume that fits its form and is themed to match your outfit.

Best Friends Forever. You can take the Help action as a bonus action to aid another creature with an ability check. If you take the Help action to distract a foe, you can grant two allies advantage on their attack rolls instead of one.

Heritage (Aberration).You are humanoid, but you are considered to be an aberration when it is detrimental for you.

Magical Studies. You have proficiency in the Arcana skill.

Mighty. Calculate your carrying capacity and the weight you can drag, push, and lift as if you were Large.

Regular Form. You can alter your form to appear as your normal human form. This appearance is unique to you and doesn’t change. When you transform, your equipment merges into your human form and your clothing becomes that of a typical person of that region. It is hard for others to discern the connection between this form and your magical girl form, unless they have witnessed you transform. You can add your proficiency bonus to Charisma (Deception) checks you attempt to convince others you are not a magical girl. While in regular form, you lack the Best Friends Forever and Mighty traits, and your familiar lacks its matching costume. A creature who casts detect evil and good while able to see and within 30 feet of you can see a hazy version of your magical girl form overlaid on you in the space you occupy. When you return to your magical girl form, your body glows as if under the effects of the light cantrip and you levitate 3 feet off the ground as your regular form clothing changes into your magical girl outfit and your other equipment.

Languages. You speak, read, and write Common and Whimsy.

Unique Appearance. The appearance of each magical girl varies wildly from the rest. You are encouraged to draw your character and their familiar so that other players can envision them as you do. Even though you can add cosmetic features when depicting your character, such as wings, claws, or extra arms, these features have no function in the game. Of course, you can work with your GM to have these features emulate traits from other races in this book.
