Manticore

Manticores are a race of humanoid lions with bat wings and a scopion’s venomous tail. They were created by Olympian gods to hunt other mortals, but now they struggle against their natural urge to kill.

Traits

Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score and your Constitution score each increase by 2.

Age. Manticores age like humans.

Alignment. Manticores are outsiders, given to hatefully rejecting the norms others accept. They see needing others as a weakness and helping others as something done only to gain an advantage for oneself. Most manticores are chaotic neutral or chaotic evil.

Rarity. Legendary.

Size. A manticore is human-sized. Your size is Medium.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Natural Weapons. You have fangs, claws, and a barbed tail, and so your unarmed strikes can deal ld4 piercing damage (bite or tail) or slashing damage (claws). If you score a critical hit with your tail, you deal ld4 extra poison damage, and the target must succeed at a Constitution saving throw (DC = 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus) or become poisoned for 1 minute. The target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. Your natural weapons have the light and finesse properties, and you have proficiency with them.

Weak Wings. You have wings, but they aren’t yet strong enough to grant you full flight. Provided you have space double what you require (usually 10 feet), you can flap your wings to jump as if you had a 10-foot running start. If you can do so and have a 10-foot start, double the distance you jump. When you fall, provided you have double your space to open them, you can use your wings to slow your fall to 60 feet per round, taking no damage from falling. Also, for every 10 feet you fall, you can move 10 feet horizontally. Each foot you move horizontally this way counts as 1 foot of movement. You have access to the Improved Wings and Strong Wings feats (see Appendix A).

Languages. You speak, read, and write Common and Monstrous. Polyglot manticores often learn Skyborn.
