Nisse are proud spirits of farms and homes. They establish domains and even people and determine whom they will bless with their presence. Adventuring nisse are those who have decided a protected person needs their help-whether he wants it or not.

Short But Mighty

Nisse appear as small people about three feet tall. Men often wear beards and dress in traditional farmer garb, with a pull-over woolen tunic belted as the waist and knee breeches with stockings. They are fond of wearing pointed red caps. Nisse have just four fingers, pointed ears, and their eyes reflect light in the dark like a cat. Despite their diminutive stature, nisse are surprisingly strong and can give a good thrashing to those that anger them.

Master Of Home And Hearth

Nisse take their stewardship of a home very seriously; likewise, crossing them is dangerous. They are fond of adopting animals whom they watch after but will not hesitate to punish those who disrespect them. Nisse ask for little in return; maybe porridge at certain times of the year at most.

Nisse Traits

Nisse are a subspecies of halfling and share the following traits.

  • Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score increases by 1.
  • Darkvision. Accustomed to skulking about at night in homes, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
  • House Magic. You know the mage hand cantrip, and the hand is invisible when you cast the cantrip with this trait. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the unseen servant spell once with this trait. When you reach 5th level, you can cast the invisibility spell on yourself once with this trait. You regain the ability to cast these spells with this trait when you finish a long rest. Intelligence is your spellcasting ability for these spells. When you cast them with this trait, they don’t require components.
  • Poison Bite. Your mouth is a natural weapon, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with your bite, you deal piercing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier, and your target must make a Constitution saving throw (DC 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier). On a failed save, the target takes 1d4 poison damage.
