Skeleton

Skeletons are the bony remains of the dead, reanimated with necromantic magic. They can’t recall who they were in life but celebrate their new existence. As long as the skull remains intact, a skeleton can freely swap bones between its body parts. Many learn to use their fingers as lockpicks.

Traits

Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score increases by 2, and your Constitution score increases by 1.

Age. Skeletons awaken as adults. They don’t age.

Alignment. With a sense of humor about death, skeletons display a range of alignments. They value family and tradition, which gives them a lawful bent.

Rarity. Common.

Size. Skeletons can vary in size, like the humanoids from which they spawn. Your size is Small or Medium.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness within the same range as if it were dim light. Absent even dim light, this vision is monochromatic.

Disassemble. Using your action, you can break into your constituent bones, causing everything you’re wearing and carrying to transform with you. This form lasts while you focus on it, as if you are concentrating on a spell. You have a base walking speed of 10 feet, and you can enter and occupy the space of another creature. Other creatures can enter and occupy your space, which is difficult terrain. You can move through spaces small enough to admit Tiny creatures without squeezing. In this form, you can’t manipulate objects, attack, or cast spells, and objects that transformed with you can’t be interacted with. You can use this ability again only after you finish a long rest.

Living Bones. You are a humanoid, but your undead nature gives you the following traits.

  • You are immune to disease, poison damage, and the poisoned condition.
  • You need not eat, drink, or breathe.
  • You are vulnerable to bludgeoning damage.
  • Although you can be healed as if you’re humanoid, and the raise dead spell works on you (returning you to “life” as a skeleton), you are otherwise considered to be undead whenever it is detrimental for you.

Skeleton Keys. You can remove small bones from your appendages and use them as thieves’ tools. You have proficiency with these tools.

Languages. You speak, read, and write Common and one other language, which is most often Shadowtongue.
