Spirals are squid-like beings who manifest as vestigial organs inside newborn humans instead of reincarnating. They are psychically linked to their human hosts and grow up with them. When the human dies, the spiral “hatches” from the corpse.

Spirals honor their hosts by carrying on their legacy, all while learning to live in a world they’ve seen only through the eyes of another. They retain the memories of their past lives.

Ability Score Increase. Your Wisdom score increases by 2, and your Constitution score increases by 1.

Age. Spirals age with their hosts. When they corpsehatch upon the death of their host, they emerge at the age and mental maturity of that being. They can continue to live up to another 80 years.

Alignment. A spiral shares the alignment of their human host.

Rarity. Unknown.

Size. After corpse-hatching, a spiral grows rapidly to around 6 feet and weighs llo pounds. Your size is Medium.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 20 feet. You also have a swimming speed of 40 feet.

Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness within the same range as if it were dim light. Absent even dim light, this vision is monochromatic.

Amphibious. You can breathe air and water.

Heritage (Aberration). You are a humanoid, but you are considered to be an aberration whenever it is detrimental for you.

Sting. Your tentacles can sting, and so your unarmed strikes can deal 1 bludgeoning damage plus ld4 poison damage. Your tentacles have the light and finesse weapon properties, and you have proficiency with them.

Nine Tentacles. You have nine grasping tentacles, among others that cannot grasp with equal power and agility, and you can hold a corresponding number of items at the ready. Also, creatures one size larger than you don’t automatically succeed on checks to escape your grapple. Although your extra limbs allow you to wield more weapons, they don’t allow you to make more attacks than you might while wielding only two weapons.

Languages. You speak, read, and write Common and Aquatic. You can choose one other language in which you have similar fluency, depending on the background of your former host.
