Animate Necrosis

5th-level necromancy

Casting Time:1 action

Range:60 feet

Components:V, S, M (a bit of string coated in animal fat)

Duration:Instantaneous

You animate the dead tissue in one wound of a living creature (the creature must currently be below its maximum number of hit points due to an injury), causing bits of animated flesh to form a sickly tendril that reaches up and out of one of the creature’s wounds.

The tendril attempts to attack the living portion of the creature, choking and strangling it. The tendril’s attack bonus is equal to your spellcasting ability modifier + your proficiency bonus. On a hit, it deals 3d8 bludgeoning damage and the target is grappled. Until this grapple ends, the target can’t breathe, and the tendril has advantage on attack rolls against the creature. The tendril attacks again at the start of your next three turns.

The tendril has AC 15 and 2 hit points per Hit Die of the target. It automatically fails all saving throws.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 6th level or higher, the damage increases by 3d8 for each slot level above 5th.
