Callback

2nd-level conjuration

Casting Time: 1 action

Range: Touch

Components: V, S

Duration: 1 hour

Classes: druid, ranger, wizard

You imbue your familiar or companion animal with a special charm that allows it to return to you when it is harmed.

You can specify an amount of hit point damage that will trigger the callback. If the creature takes damage that equals or exceeds this threshold (whether from a single event or combined damage from multiple attacks or effects) while it is within 500 feet of you, it teleports unerringly into your space (if Tiny or smaller) or to an open space adjacent to you (if Small or larger). This does not require an action.

If the creature is killed, its corpse teleports back to your side instead. Once the target has teleported back to you, the callback spell ends.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, you can increase the range from which your companion can teleport back to you. Increasing the spell slot by one level increases the range to 1 mile; increasing it by two levels increases it to anywhere on the same plane.

In addition, increasing the level of the spell slot by one level allows you to increase the spell’s duration to 8 hours and increasing it by two levels increases it to 24 hours.

You can combine these spell slot level increases to improve the spell’s range and duration in any combination.
