Curse Object

4th-level necromancy

Classes: Bard, Druid, Sorcerer, Warlock, Wizard

Casting Time: 1 minute

Range: 30 feet

Components: S (truename), M (wing of bat)

Duration: Instantaneous

You craft a curse and attach it to an object.

That object can be up to large size, such as a spinning wheel, or tiny, such as an apple. You dictate the interaction with the object and the name of a target that will interact with it. If the target is within 30 feet of the object, they must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failure, the target is charmed, and compelled to interact with the object in the prescribed way. A named target that interacts with the object is subject to a curse and receives no saving throw. The effects of the curse must otherwise conform to all the effects of bestow curse, with an indefinite duration. Such curses are ended with spells and effects such as greater restoration or remove curse that specifically end curses.

A suspicious character can investigate the item, either making an Intelligence (Arcana), Intelligence (Investigation), Wisdom (Insight), or Wisdom (Perception) check to determine that the object is dangerous. The DC is equal to your spell save DC. Effects such as detect magic show the object as having an aura of necromancy, and creatures with truesight can instantly recognize the object to be cursed. At the DM’s option, a character with a passive score in any of those skills equal to the DC is automatically alerted to the object’s cursed status.
