Dimensional Maw

9th-level evocation

Classes: sorcerer, warlock (fiend or great old one only), wizard

Casting Time:1 action

Range:60 feet

Components:V, S, M (a pair of chopsticks)

Duration:Concentration, up to 1 minute

A rift in space opens up, disgorging an enormous tentacle-like tongue of unearthly appearance that attempts to capture one creature per round within 30 feet of it. If a creature you target fails a Dexterity saving throw, it is ensnared by the tentacle-tongue and deposited into the dimensional maw. Both the tentacle and maw are comprised of magical force, and the maw contains an extradimensional space that gnaws the trapped creature for 14d6 force damage each round. A creature can use an action on its turn to escape the maw with a successful Strength saving throw.

This allows it to leave the maw, tumbling back onto the ground in its former location, where it must succeed on a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw or fall prone and take 3d6 bludgeoning damage from the fall.

The dimensional maw continues attacking the same creature each round you continue to concentrate, though you can switch targets as a bonus action. You can switch targets as a free action after the dimensional maw deposits a target into the maw, though only one target can be affected each round. There is no limit to how many creatures can be swallowed, as the extradimensional maw expands to make room for each new creature. When the spell ends, all swallowed creatures are deposited back on the ground adjacent to each other.
