Straitjacket

4th-level conjuration

Casting Time: 1 action

Range: 30 feet

Components: V, S, M (leather strap)

Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute

Classes: cleric, paladin

You create a restraining garment with straps and harnesses that wraps itself around a Large or smaller target you designate. The target can attempt either a Strength or Dexterity saving throw; on a failed save, it is restrained by the straitjacket, though its speed is reduced by half rather than reduced to 0. A creature with wings cannot fly while bound with the straitjacket.

Each round a creature begins its turn restrained it must also make a Charisma saving throw or be affected as calm emotions as the straitjacket suppresses its will. Once a creature fails its saving throw, the calm emotions effect remains for the duration of the spell.

If a creature fails its saving throw against the calm emotions effect, on the following round you can grant the target a new saving throw against being charmed, frightened, confused, or cursed. If this save succeeds, that effect ends. This does not affect instantaneous or permanent effects, and you can grant a creature only one additional saving throw with each casting of straitjacket.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 5th level or higher, you can choose to have the target blinded, deafened, or gagged and unable to speak as long as it is restrained. You may select one additional effect of the straitjacket for each slot level above 4th. You also can affect a Huge or Gargantuan creature by increasing the slot level by one for each size above Medium.
