Ziar Zan’s Staff

Ziar Zan’s staff is a potent tool in the hands of a wizard willing to invest the time to master it.

Appearance: Ziar Zan’s staff is carved from a single piece of black marble shot with silver but is only as heavy as a normal wooden staff. Nine rings of runes encircle the shaft and a dull violet crystal is mounted on the top. A light within the crystal flashes brightly momentarily when the wielder casts a spell (if the wielder wishes it to).

Lore: Ziar Zan was a legendary wizard who exploited his magic to extend his lifespan. No one knows how long he lived or even when he lived. There are so many stories about him that some bards assume that he is a myth and the name has been attributed to the lives and exploits of many other wizards whose names have been lost. This legacy makes it almost impossible to find out who Ziar Zan actually was.

Effects: Ziar Zan’s staff provides a +1 bonus to the wielder’s spell attack bonus and the spell save DC vs. spells the wielder casts increases by 1.

If the attuned wielder is a wizard of at least 5th level, the wielder may use a bonus action once to regain one expended spell slot of up to 2nd level.

If the attuned wielder is a wizard of at least 8th level, the wielder’s spell attack bonus and the spell save DC vs. spells the wielder casts increases by 2 instead of 1. The wielder may use a bonus action once to regain one expended spell slot of up to 4th level.

If the attuned wielder is a wizard of at least 12th level, the wielder’s spell attack bonus and the spell save DC vs. spells the wielder casts increases by 3 instead of 2. The wielder may use a bonus action once to regain one expended spell slot of up to 6th level.

The ability to regain expended spell slots but the bonus to spell attack bonus and spell save DC increases.
