This appears to be nothing more than a round red, tooth of a large reptile, likely a crocodile or similar beast.

The bearer of Mawstooth always knows the shortest route to the outside from within a building or underground space. This doesn’t work like directional sense, and the tooth doesn’t imprint the bearer’s mind with a map. Basically, when faced with multiple options (two doors or tunnels, for example), the bearer will unerringly know the right direction to go to reach the closest unblocked exit. If you intend to use the tooth to get through a mountain passage or labyrinth, you will have to block the way you came in, or travel halfway through, before the tooth will stop pointing you back to the entrance. The tooth can also make a red mark on any surface without breaking or wearing itself down, though if used to write something longer than ten letters at once, it grows too hot to touch for one hour.
