Haunt Siphon

Wondrous Item, uncommon

These glass vials are held within stylized cold-iron casings etched with strange runes, necromantic designs, or other eldritch markings. Within the vial roils a small wisp of white vapor, churning as if caught in a miniature vortex of air.

To capture a haunt’s energies within a haunt siphon, you need only twist the metal casing as an action to open the vial in the same round the haunt manifests—this can be before or after the haunt has acted. You must be within the haunt’s area of influence to use a haunt siphon. When you activate a haunt siphon, the haunt must make a DC 14 Wisdom saving throw. If it succeeds, it goes dormant and ceases its attacks against creatures in its area of effect.

The haunt cannot manifest again for another 24 hours, regardless of its normal reset time. If, on the other hand, the haunt fails this save, the haunt is absorbed into the siphoned and cannot manifest again until its energies are released (see below). Whether it absorbs a haunt or not, the siphon cannot be used to absorb another haunt.

Once a siphon absorbs a haunt, the mist inside glows green.

If the siphon is thrown (up to a range of 20 feet), it shatters upon impact and inflicts 3d6 necrotic damage to each creature within 5 feet.
