Special Traits

  • Shapechanger. The mimic swarm can use its action to polymorph into a group of small objects (like a pile of coins or gravel) or back into its true, amorphous form. Its Statistics are the same in each form. Any Equipment it is wearing or carrying isn’t transformed. It reverts to its true form if it dies.
  • Adhesive (Object Form Only). The mimic adheres to anything that touches it. A Medium or smaller creature adhered to the mimic swarm is also Grappled by it (escape DC 13). Ability Checks made to escape this grapple have disadvantage.
  • False appearance (Object Form Only). While the mimic remains motionless, it is indistinguishable from an ordinary object.
  • Grappler. The mimic has advantage on attack rolls against any creature Grappled by it.
  • Swarm. The swarm can occupy another creature’s space and vice versa, and the swarm can move through any opening large enough for a Tiny creature. The swarm can’t regain hit points or gain temporary hit points.

Actions

  • Bites. (swarm has more than half HP). Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 0 ft., one target in the swarm’s space. Hit: (8) 4d4 piercing damage + (8) 2d8 acid damage.
  • Bites. (swarm has half HP or less). Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 0 ft., one target in the swarm’s space. Hit: (4) 2d4 piercing damage + (4) 1d8 acid damage.

About

A mimic swarm is made up of mimic larvae that gather together for self-protection. The swarm is ravenous and will attack any living creature it senses nearby. The swarm has the same acidic bite adult mimics have, but with less control over using it. This lack of control results in an extraordinary amount of acid released when the tiny creatures bite.

A mimic swarm will almost take the shape of a similar type of object. This may take the shape of a pile of coins, or gravel, or even mulch. Each piece of the pile is one individual mimic larvae.

As the mimic larvae mature, they will begin to wander away from the mimic swarm, seeking their own corner of the dungeon to inhabit. As they do, the swarm grows smaller and smaller until it gets to the point there are too few remaining and finally dissipates.
