The Vaults

Many flamekin communities live underground near lava tubes or volcanoes. They used to have sprawling outdoor cities, but the massive eruption of the Io volcanoes left them in ruins.

Reeling from the destruction, the survivors fled into their ancient underground lands.

In order to survive the devastation, the flamekin turned their underground homes into massive vaults. Completely cut off from outside contact, they tried to remain self-sufficient until the surface was safe again. Some vaults were successful, but others were lost due to poor management or monsters the eruption unleashed.

Most flamekin vaults have opened, and they are catching back up with the world they left behind for years. There are hidden flamekin vaults in the underground that have not reopened, either because they still fear what is outside, or because there’s no one left inside to unlock them.
