Twi

Twis are from the hidden land of Twi, nestled in the Kingdom of Auriel. Concealed by nearly impassable hedges, Twi is seen by very few, and the twi are loath to venture far from their beloved home. Fewer still are those that leave the safety of Yew Isle. One glance at a twi offers an explanation: twis go beyond being merely identical in appearance, but think and act exactly alike.

To a twi, singular beings are a horrifying abominations. Twis think and act with one mind and one soul; they expect a twin of everything, as it is in Twi. This facilitates their lifestyle, in which they build twin homes and have dual animals, who are also twi. It is always twilight in Twi, which is why twis can see in the dark. Twis speak in unison and have no concept of the number “one”—there is no name for it in their language. They consider singulars to be “half-men.”

Traits

  • Ability Score Increase. Your Wisdom score increases by 2 and your Dexterity score by 1.
  • Age. Twis mature at the same rate as humans.
  • Alignment. Twi are fond of their routines, which require synchronization, and therefore many become lawful neutral.
  • Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of grey.
  • Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and Twi.
  • One Mind. While your twis are on the same plane of existence, they both have advantage on Wisdom saving throws and can communicate telepathically. If one of your twis suffers a charm effect, the other twi has disadvantage on all checks.
  • One Soul. Whenever one twi suffers an effect that would damage or imprison its soul, both of your twis are affected. When one of your twis suffers psychic or necrotic damage, your other twi suffers half the damage.
  • Size. Twi are about the same size and build as humans. Your size is Medium.
  • Speed. Your base walking speed for each Twi is 30 feet.
  • Twi Synchronicity. Your twis can carry, wear, and wield different equipment but if one of them wields a different type of weapon (e.g., one with a longsword and another with a greataxe) or takes a different action (e.g., one drinking a potion while the other attacks), they both suffer disadvantage on their rolls for that turn. Your twis have advantage on attack rolls against a creature if your other twi is within 5 feet of the creature and your twi isn’t incapacitated.
  • Twis as Nice. Your twi is your exact mirror, an NPC with your same attributes, class, level, hit points, and experience points, controlled by one mind. You control both twis and they prefer, whenever possible, to stay together. Twis get one share of experience points but divides it equally among them.
  • Two Heads. Your twis have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks and on saving throws against being blinded, charmed, deafened, frightened, stunned, and knocked unconscious while they are on the same plane of existence.
